7. Conclusion

Gone are the days when all groundwater was simply pumped, chlorinated and distributed, and all surface water treatment systems were designed according to the classic "pre-chlorination, coagulation, flocculation, settling, deep filtration, disinfection" scheme.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the presence and discovery of numerous mineral and organic micropollutants in the resource, increasingly comprehensive and demanding regulations (with good reason), the multiplication of controls, consumer expectations, hyper-mediatization of the subject, etc. led water suppliers and distributors to design much more sophisticated and efficient treatment processes. This article describes most of these so-called "conventional" treatment processes for ground and surface water, along with a number of tests essential to their optimization.
