1. Context

Macromolecular architectures can be divided into four main families: linear, branched, cross-linked and, more recently, dendritic polymers. Dendritic systems can be subdivided into different classes of compounds: dendrimers, dendronized polymers, hyperbranched polymers and arborescent polymers, which historically appeared in this order. Over the past decade, dendrimeric and hyperbranched polymers have attracted increasing attention from researchers due to their high number of chemical branches and functions, leading to a wide range of properties and applications. This article focuses on dendrimeric and hyperbranched polymers, their synthesis, structural characteristics and applications as additives for wood glues and foams.
