The dogs used by SDPTS are German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois Shepherds, selected for their olfactory abilities, work stamina and motivation. They are trained at the SDPTS odorology unit by handlers qualified by the Centre national de formation des unités cynotechniques de la police nationale (CNFUC).
