Defining precision agriculture is complex, in the sense that some specialists tend to present it as a scientific discipline, while others prefer to see it as a farm management strategy in its own right. This is why it is sometimes so difficult for certain players (scientists, farmers, etc.) to position themselves clearly in this field. Certain questions often come up: "can I consider myself a precision agronomist?", "does it make sense to say that a farmer is doing precision agriculture?", "I develop optical sensors for agriculture, I do applied statistics on agricultural data, or I work in the field of automatic control applied to agriculture, why do people say I'm doing precision agriculture?".
