9. Fireproof or fire-stop seals
In public premises, where the risk of fire is amplified by the number of people present, it is necessary to protect the premises against the risk of fire coming from adjacent premises. If fire breaks out in a room, it must be prevented from spreading to adjacent rooms, in particular by permanently sealing joints.
Firestop joints must therefore resist fire, the intense heat developed, and the penetration of combustion gases that could ignite other fires.
Legislation therefore distinguishes between products according to fire-resistance duration, with products that withstand 1, 2 or 4 h, without flame penetration and without exceeding the temperature of + 140°C above ambient on the unexposed face, a temperature that would ignite other materials in adjacent premises.
