Overview
ABSTRACT
The flexible and semi-rigid materials used in pavement layers are made from basic constituents which are: aggregates, hydrocarbon binders, hydraulic binders, pozzolanic binders and lime.
The aim of this paper is to characterize these materials tobetter respond to the design requirementsof road pavements. Indeed, the layers constituting the roadway must, first, resist the repeated actions of rolling loads, and more particularly heavy weights (surface wear of the wearing layer, formation of ruts by creep of the material, fatigue of the treated layers, etc.). They must, on the other hand, resist climatic stress (rain, frost, thaw, etc.). All with the aim of ensuring the user a good level of service (adhesion, good smoothness, low rolling noise, limited maintenance interventions, etc.).
Standardization plays an ever more essential role, both because it covers all the applications of the products previously listed andreconciles points of views that are rarely consistent within the different European countries.

INTRODUCTION

It is from these various components that the materials making up the various pavement layers are manufactured, the aim being that, through appropriate formulation and manufacturing and laying conditions, they best meet the requirements listed in article

Before examining the nature of the most suitable materials, layer by layer, starting with the subgrade, it should be stressed that traditional approaches are being radically altered by the development of techniques for recycling and reprocessing existing pavement materials.
