18. Conclusion
We can create large tidal basins at a cost per MWh lower than the average cost of hydroelectric dams, and we can manufacture tidal turbines of a few MW at very moderate cost.
A new solution being studied in France combines these two possibilities:
at a cost per MWh similar to the cost of hydroelectricity;
with more favorable impacts;
by offering significant additional potential for energy storage, coastal protection, wind farms, industrial development and tourism.
Twenty countries, home to half of humanity, are concerned with ten percent of their future electricity needs. Maréliennes" seem to have a great future.
