Studies in Great Britain have focused on the exceptional Severn site, and, as in most other countries, have been based on the use of bulb groups. For the reasons explained above, these studies have resulted in a cost well in excess of 100 E/MWh and environmental problems linked to changes in level. The use of large basins open to the sea by means of large tidal turbine channels offers a different approach (figure
