1. What tests can detect sensitizing substances?
Four skin sensitization tests in animals are described, including three validated regulatory tests, and two tests in humans. These tests are based on T-cell mediation.
Tests in albino guinea pigs are carried out as follows:
sensitization induction ;
latency/maturation time and cell proliferation (rest 10-15 days) ;
triggering ;
scoring of erythema and localized edema at the site of the triggering application using the grid. Results are compared between the control and treatment groups.
