Is LCA a tool for design or redesign?
Life cycle analysis enables a quantified environmental assessment of a product. As such, it must be based on a quantified life cycle inventory, which is why it can only be applied to existing products. It is therefore more of a redesign tool. However, in some cases, it can be used in the design of new products if there is a sufficiently detailed concept or a family of similar products that can be used to compile the inventory.
When can I perform a simplified LCA?
There are two types of so-called "simplified" LCAs.
Impact assessments do not consider all impact categories of the chosen method, but only one or more categories.
