2. Waste gas treatment

Treatment processes that are not likely to lead to pollution transfer should be preferred for effluent purification.

Where treatment facilities are required to comply with discharge limits, they must be designed to cope with variations in flow, temperature or composition of the effluent to be treated, particularly during plant start-up or shutdown. They must be properly maintained.

The main parameters used to ensure proper operation are measured periodically and, if necessary, continuously, with an alarm system. The results of these measurements are recorded in a register, which may be computerized, and made available to the Classified Installations Inspectorate.
