1. Mapping Fleet Usage

1.1 Quantitative and qualitative audit of the existing fleet

Before deciding between electricity, hydrogen, or biogas, a company must conduct a comprehensive analysis of its current fleet. A purely statistical approach (average vehicle age, total annual mileage) is insufficient. On-board telematics devices should be deployed over a representative period (at least four to six weeks) to collect real-world raw data:

  • trip profiles (last-mile urban delivery, regional inter-site routes, long-distance trucking);

  • driving cycles (congested urban, suburban, highway);

  • actual payloads transported and variations in volume;

  • vehicle downtime windows (overnight downtime, midday breaks, loading at docks).
