6. What financial assistance and support programs are available?
Meeting the criteria for a certified passive house requires a higher initial investment than that of a conventional, code-compliant building (additional cost generally estimated between 7% and 15%). However, this financial investment is largely offset over time by virtually no heating costs and by maximized “green” property value. To achieve certification, numerous national and local public support programs can be utilized, whether the project involves new construction or major renovation.
For projects aiming for passive certification through the rehabilitation of existing buildings, the French government now prioritizes comprehensive, high-performance renovation approaches.
