5. Insertion reactions in the metal-hydride bond

The insertion reaction can also occur in a metal-hydride bond. Numerous variations exist, highlighting the richness of this insertion reaction. The simplest type of insertion involves an alkene being converted into an alkyl group. Differences in metal-hydrogen and metal-carbon electronegativity lead to a polarity that places the positive charge on the metal in both cases. The degree of oxidation of the metal does not change in this insertion:
