2. Scintillators

A scintillator emits light (usually in the visible range) in response to a stimulus (e.g. ionizing radiation). The intensity of this light follows a decreasing exponential law with one or more decay constants: L(t)L0exp(tτ)

Fluorescence occurs when light emission is immediate (in the order of 1 ns to 1 µs) and independent of temperature.

Phosphorescence corresponds to light emission over a longer period (between 1 µs and 1 min) and is temperature-dependent.
