6. Legal and regulatory obligations

6.1 Machinery Directive 98/37/EC

AGVs are considered machines, and their construction must meet the requirements of European Directive 98/37/EC of January 22, 1998 (incorporating Directives 89/392/EEC, 91/368/EEC, 93/68/EC and 93/44/EC).

In addition, the use of AGVs is governed by Directive 95/63/EC of December 5, 1995, which stipulates that employers must provide their personnel with equipment appropriate to the tasks to be performed.

For further details, please refer to chapter 10 of the book, which contains the text of regulations and standards applying to all self-propelled forklift-trucks.
