 INTRODUCTION

Like many things, when it first appeared, value analysis did not have all the characteristics, the fields of application and the broad concept that it has now acquired.

It is useful to review its evolution in time and space, as this allows us to characterize the successively broadened concepts that have led to what value analysis is today; and we will recognize in passing the all-too-limited visions of those who consider it outdated in relation to modern management disciplines and approaches, because they have stuck to a conception that is, in fact, outdated.

For the sake of simplicity, and as all proponents of the method do, from now on we'll refer to value analysis by its initials AV.
