The above device was developed experimentally, with the scientific aim of studying the impact of the virtual advisor's intimate communication strategy on user perceptions and experience. The aim was to test the hypothesis that the social dimension of the exchange, reinforced by the virtual agent's expression of intimacy, would have a positive impact on user perception and experience. To meet this objective, 2 versions of the device - a control version and an intimate version of the tourist advisor - were deployed for 2 months at the Nevers tourist office.
