7. Rings and capping systems

The main requirements for glass container closures are as follows:

  • technical characteristics of the packaged product (e.g. pressurized liquid or desired shelf life);

  • technical possibilities of realization by the glassmaker; for example, the stoppage with a very long cork stopper on very light wine bottles is very difficult to realize from the point of view of the respect of the cylindricity dimensions of the neck of the bottles;

  • cost of capping system ;

  • marketing aspect (presentation) ;

  • consumer habits (traditional cork presentation) ;

  • target markets (for example, easy opening by the elderly);

  • security against counterfeit liquids (spirits...
