6. Advantages and disadvantages of predictive maintenance in Industry 5.0

The adoption of predictive maintenance as part of Industry 5.0 is still in its infancy. Many companies are currently exploring the pros and cons of this new paradigm. In 2023, the European Community launched the Industry 5.0 Community of Practice (CoP 5.0) to bring together different players in the European innovation ecosystem. This collaborative space aims to share best practices and facilitate the implementation of Industry 5.0. Although feedback on predictive maintenance is still limited and often confidential, a consensual (non-exhaustive) inventory of advantages and disadvantages has been drawn up.
