In-line measurements are performed continuously along the line. This begins with the amount of raw material fed into the system, measurement of the external geometry of the insulation or sheath (diameter, circularity, and concentricity), inspection for insulation defects, capacitance measurement (copper telecommunications cables), measuring the sheath thickness, precisely measuring the cable feed-through speed, and topographical measurements of the cable surface (high and medium voltage). All these measurements can be sent to the line control system. This allows for the analysis of changes over time in various measurements, as well as the identification of their interactions.
