4. Conclusion

Future developments in precipitated calcium carbonates (new morphologies, new functionalities) will extend their fields of application, such as polyurethane sealants, where only minute traces of water are tolerated, or plastisol formulations, which require very low viscosity under high shear and very high viscosity under low shear.

Their multi-functional nature is already well established, making it possible to envisage the substitution of high-performance mineral fillers such as silica, stabilizers composed of metallic elements, or organic compounds such as polymeric impact agents. The main advantages of these substitutions are a reduction in the overall cost of formulations, and the use of compounds with a more positive environmental image.
