1. Overview of twin-screw extrusion processes

1.1 General description

In a twin-screw extruder, the following parts are assembled on a single frame (figure 1 ):

  • the screw-torque assembly with heating and cooling accessories (A);

  • the drive unit (gearbox, torque divider and clutch assembly) (B);

  • the main motor (C);

  • devices for feeding the material (feeders, D) or for treating it (e.g. degassing device);

  • a device for cutting or shaping the extruded material (die), if applicable (E);
