2. Automotive's share of the chemicals and plastics industry

The automotive sector is of great importance to the major chemical companies that supply polymer materials, and to plastics processors.

First of all, material consumption is not negligible, since the transport industry accounts for 15% of plastics consumption by mass, with around 9% to 10% for the automotive industry (figure 9 ).
