ISO international standardization (outside Europe)

Since 1947, international standardization work has been carried out by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which brings together the international organizations of some 148 countries representing over 95% of the world's industrial production.

It is a non-governmental organization based in Geneva, whose aim is to draw up international standards to harmonize relations and exchanges between states.

In the electrical field, the IEC pursues the same goal and has similar structures; created in 1906, it is older than ISO. Although independent of each other, the two organizations have established agreements governing their relations, and complement each other to form a coherent and effective whole.

ISO's official languages are English, French and Russian.
