4. Specific controls

4.1 Resistance to ultraviolet radiation

Under the effect of ultraviolet (UV) rays, POMs degrade rapidly. For this reason, manufacturers introduce UV stabilizers into POMs intended for outdoor applications. The effectiveness of these stabilizers is tested in the laboratory using accelerated aging methods (Xenotest or Weather-O-Meter devices), or after exposure to outdoor conditions and measurement of the change in a mechanical property.
