1.1 Definition of biopolymers (biosourced, biodegradable)
In the following, biopolymers are defined as polymers that are either biosourced, biodegradable or both.
Biobased polymers are produced from biomass.
There are three types of biobased polymers, depending on the type of raw material used:
1 re generation: raw material obtained from food crops (corn, sugar cane, beet, etc.);
2nd generation: raw material obtained from cellulosic waste (e.g. wood processing residues), food waste (e.g. residues from the agri-food industry) or other waste (e.g. household waste);
