 INTRODUCTION

Technological risk prevention encompasses all measures that can be implemented to reduce the likelihood of an accident occurring and its consequences. It is based on four tools:

  • risk control at source by the operator;

  • controlling urbanization (moving populations away from danger);

  • the organization of emergency services;

  • public information.

As part of national toxic risk assessments for technological risk prevention plans (PPRT) and the SEVESO Directive (SEVESO 3, 2012), health agencies define guideline values intended to protect the population in the event of exposure to chemical substances.

This fact sheet will help you understand how VTRs are calculated and defined, as well as their industrial impact.
