13. Conclusion

The role of an engineer is to synthesize factors of diverse and sometimes contradictory origins, combining the quantifiable with the human, and integrating long-term objectives: urban planning, programming, technical and legal constraints. The life of a building is largely conditioned by the choices made from the outset.

Among the many parameters that the engineer must harmonize and weigh up, fire safety occupies an important place. The aim of this report is to provide the information needed to raise the designer's awareness and help him or her choose, from among several possible options, the one that best ensures the required level of safety.
