3. Griesheim accident
The Griesheim accident caused no casualties or injuries. To the best of our knowledge, no effects linked to the toxicity of the product released have been reported. The media, the Hessian state authorities and the federal authorities reacted immediately, and new regulatory measures were adopted to prevent the recurrence of such an incident. The cost of repairs and the consequences were very high for the company owning the plant.
On February 22, 1993, a reaction runaway occurred at Hoechst AG's Griesheim plant, during which approximately 10 t of reaction mixture was released through a valve.
