12. Conclusion

Reliability-Based Maintenance (RBM) methods are considered classic and universally recognized. They are mainly based on the methodology developed in the aeronautics industry by Nowlan and Heap as early as 1978. They are characterized by the use of structured, rigorous steps that lead to truly applicable and effective maintenance tasks, whatever the consequences of failures. With the exception of MSG-3, which today remains dedicated to aeronautics, SAE and IEC standards have been adapted to cover the needs of other industrial sectors, and are largely inspired by John Moubray's RCM2 method. In response to the complexity of classic MBF, which requires in-depth analyses that are costly in terms of resources and time, the Streamlined RCM and PMO (reverse MBF) approaches offer simplifications.
