5. What is the importance of time-stamping documents?
In the event of a dispute, a judge will only accept your data if it is correctly time-stamped.
Time-stamping consists in automatically and unforgeably associating a date and time with an event, for example the dispatch of SDS X to company Y on 1 er June 201X at 11:43.
In this way, all events in your system will be recorded with a secure, legally valid reference date. This date can be "purchased" from a time-stamping authority that implements a standard protocol (e.g. RFC 3161, TSP - Time-Stamping Protocol ).
The intervention of a time-stamping authority on the entire computer system is a highly effective means of ensuring that you can obtain a "postmark" at any time.
