5. How is the nervous system protected?

The nervous system is protected by :

  • the meninges for the brain and spinal cord;

  • peri-neural cells for nerves.

The meninges are made up of continuous layers of specialized cells whose function is to limit the entry of molecules from adjacent tissues.
