1.1 Definition

"Liquefied petroleum gas" (LPG) refers to a low-pressure liquefied gas containing one or more light hydrocarbons classified under UN numbers 1011, 1075, 1965, 1969, and 1978 only, and which consists primarily of propane, propene, butane, butane isomers, and butene, with traces of other hydrocarbon gases.

  • Liquefied petroleum gases include the following:

    • UN 1011: butane (pure);

    • UN 1075: liquefied petroleum gases (code 1075 may be used in place of 1965 in the case of road transport preceding or following transport by sea or air);

    • UN 1965: liquefied mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons;
