1.1 Worldwide trends

The global market for crop protection products is constantly evolving, and has been estimated at $50 billion for 2019. Two product groups share this colossal market: chemical pesticides and biopesticides. With increasingly restrictive regulations on the use of chemicals, and the desire of governments for "cleaner", more sustainable agriculture, biopesticides have gradually gained ground (table 1 ). Exponential growth is expected in this market, which currently only represents around $4 billion
