In 2013, transgenic crops covered 175 million hectares worldwide, or over 12% of cultivated land (figures 1 and 2 ). It is suspected that a further, undeclared million hectares were cultivated in China, Ukraine and Russia. This is the fastest-growing innovation in agriculture
