4. Magnetotactic bacteria and biotechnology

MTBs and their magnetic inclusions have interesting magnetic, physical and optical properties that can be and are being exploited in a wide range of scientific, commercial and medical applications (for review: [120] [121] [122] [123] [124]). While the number of applications and patents involving MTBs is growing, the problem of mass culturing these organisms and harvesting their magnetosomes in large quantities remains. However, significant progress has been made in this field over the last decade.
