2. Baculovirus/insect cell system

2.1 Description of the production system

With two components, a viral vector on the one hand and a cell line on the other, this protein bioproduction system occupies a special place among existing devices. The virus is constructed independently and carries the gene(s) to be expressed, while the cell lines will be used both to prepare and amplify the viruses, and during the bioreactor production stage. This configuration simplifies the management of cell banks, which can be common to all productions. However, the viral component requires additional steps to prepare stocks and set infection parameters, which can vary from one protein to another.
