6. Reducing cavitation effects

There are several ways to limit the harmful effects of cavitation and/or improve pump operating ranges:

  • reduce the NPSH of pumps by acting on the design of the impeller and feed components;

  • limit the consequences of cavitation (noise, erosion, vibration) through appropriate mechanical design and choice of materials;

  • in some cases, use a feed inductor or impeller installed upstream of the impeller, mainly in centrifugal pumps.

  • Pump NPSH improvement

    By modifying the main geometric parameters of the impeller inlet vanes, it is possible to design pumps whose cavitation performance can vary over a very wide range.
