7. Indirect injection or pre-chamber engines

The principle of this type of engine is to separate the combustion chamber into two parts:

  • a pre-chamber or turbulence chamber, usually located in the cylinder head, in which injection takes place;

  • a main chamber bounded by the cylinder head, cylinder and piston.

This type of engine is currently the most widespread for applications in passenger cars and small commercial vehicles.
