 INTRODUCTION

Diesel engines are renowned for offering one of the highest levels of energy efficiency and remarkable flexibility of use. Its performance, whether in terms of power, efficiency or pollutant emissions, is particularly sensitive to combustion quality. This is essentially linked to the choice of combustion system, the shape of the combustion chamber or pre-chamber, and the way in which the fuel is introduced.

Various solutions have been used with varying degrees of success. In the past, technical choices were mainly dictated by the desire to achieve combustion as simply as possible, using unsophisticated injection equipment for economic reasons.

In recent years, the need for high-performance, pollution-free solutions has led to a move towards more advanced technical solutions. These objectives can be achieved by combining the fuel injection system with the combustion chamber, enabling precise control of the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber.
