3.1 Physical characteristics

The two main physical characteristics are friction and wear.

3.1.1 Seal friction

The lining's coefficient of friction must be appropriate for the purpose, and must remain constant within the brake's usual operating range. The usual value for friction is between 0.35 and 0.45, the value normally used as a basis for calculating most existing brakes.
