Taking advantage of gyroscope behavior

While it's clear that rapidly rotating systems such as propellers generate torques that are considered artifacts and need to be compensated for in some way, these same artifacts can be put to good use in many other systems, in two ways.

The first is that the orientation of a gyroscope is fixed when it is not under stress. In this case, gyroscopes are used to define a spatial reference. The second is linked to the gyroscopic effect itself, induced by the constrained precession of the gyroscope disk around a given axis, and to the use of the force generated by this gyroscopic effect to directly correct the orientation of the moving object to which the gyroscope is attached.
