2.1 Characterization of mechatronic systems

Mechanical systems have been enriched over time with non-mechanical components, such as electrical and electronic components. A mechatronic system is therefore initially a mechanical system enriched with the functions offered by electronics, automation and computing technologies, in particular the functions of capturing, processing and communicating information, so as to perceive, communicate and act on its surrounding environment, presenting a complete level of mechatronic integration, from both the functional and physical points of view. The opposite approach, i.e. electronics or computing enriched by mechanics, is a more recent development that should also be emphasized, as it brings with it a host of innovations, such as video games...
