1.1 Different modes of friction

Since Stribeck's work, possible bearing operating regimes have been classified into four main types:

  • the friction regime without the interposition of a liquid lubricant ;

  • limit lubrication speed ;

  • mixed lubrication ;

  • the hydrodynamic lubrication regime.
