5. Main defects

This section gives an overview of the main faults and their vibratory manifestations that can be encountered on conventional rotating machines.

5.1 Unbalance (or imbalance)

  • Events :

    • increase in the overall level selected for low frequencies :

      • i.e. D c c [10-1,000 Hz],

      • i.e. V eff [10-1,000 Hz] ;

    • clear increase in the amplitude of the fundamental frequency (rotation frequency, fr ) : fr=N/60
