3. Conclusion

The various forms of wear make its study complex, but indispensable for a better understanding of the processes involved, and for predicting mechanism lifetimes. While the means of analysis have progressed enormously in recent years, there is still room for improvement in order to obtain more precise and reliable wear laws.
