2. Wear study and quantification

Enormous progress has been made in tribology research laboratories in recent decades, thanks to the use of increasingly powerful computerized data acquisition equipment. By combining conventional tribometers with powerful sensors, it has been possible to gain a better understanding of wear and friction processes.

These wear studies are also of great interest in understanding the lifetimes of different mechanisms, in anticipation of possible damage or with a view to testing new materials.
