Usure adhésive; adhesive wear

This type of wear is due to the rupture of the junctions formed at the points of contact between the two sliding bodies, and is characterized by the transfer of material from the softer body to the antagonist.

Abrasive wear; abrasion

Type of wear where a hard body plastically deforms a softer body, with or without material removal.

Usure tribochimique; tribochemical wear

Type of wear that occurs when friction takes place in an environment that is reactive for the materials involved.

Usure par fissuration; cracking induced wear

A type of wear in which the creation and propagation of cracks are due to mechanical and/or thermal stresses exceeding the breaking limit, or to fatigue phenomena....
