austenite; austenite

Constituent of an Fe-C alloy observable at high temperature, whose face-centered cubic elementary crystal lattice is capable of solubilizing a high carbon content (approx. 2%) during insertion.

cementite; iron carbide

Defined Fe ₃ C compound in Fe-C alloys, whose orthorhombic mesh is very hard and brittle.

dilution; dilution rate

The base metal's contribution to the chemical composition of the molten zone through its melting.

ferrite; ferrite

Constituent of an Fe-C alloy whose cubic-centered elementary crystal lattice can only solubilize a low concentration of carbon (approx. 0.02%).
